‘THE EIGHT MOUNTAINS” (Le Otto Montagne) produced by Fremantle’s Wildside, was this evening awarded the Prix Du Jury prize at the prestigious 75th Festival de Cannes.

‘THE EIGHT MOUNTAINS’ is written and directed by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, and adapted screenplay from the award-winning novel ‘LE OTTO MONTAGNE’ by acclaimed international bestselling author Paolo Cognetti.

‘THE EIGHT MOUNTAINS’ is produced by Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Gangarossa for Fremantle’s Wildside, co-produced with Belgium’s Rufus and Menuetto, France’s Pyramide Productions and Vision Distribution, produced in collaboration with the U.K.’s Elastic and with Sky.

Starring Luca Marinelli, Alessandro Borghi, Filippo Timi and Elena Lietti, ‘THE EIGHT MOUNTAINS’ depicts a moving coming-of-age story, of childhood friendship and men who try to erase the footprints of their fathers, but through fate, end up returning home. Pietro is a boy from the city, and Bruno is the last child of a forgotten Italian Alpine village. Over the years Bruno remains faithful to his mountain, while Pietro is the one who comes and goes. Their encounters introduce them to love and loss, reminding them of their roots, letting their destinies unfold, as Pietro and Bruno discover what it means to be true friends for life.

In 2021 alone, Fremantle delivered 81 scripted shows across the world including Paolo Sorrentino’s critically acclaimed “The Hand of God” which won two awards at the Venice Film Festival and recently received an Oscar nomination. “The Mosquito Coast” from Neil Cross, Penelope Cruz starred “L’immensità”, and Ole Bornedal’s “The Shadow in My Eye”. “Esterno Notte” (Exterior Night) in addition to “Le Otto Montagne” (The Eight Mountains) both featured at the 75th Festival de Cannes.
